Sona Comstar: Partners with Denso for Global Electrification Expansion

Sona Comstar announced a significant strategic partnership with Denso, establishing two joint ventures focused on high voltage electric and hybrid powertrain systems. This collaboration aims to bolster Sona Comstar’s electrification portfolio, expand into new vehicle categories, and leverage Denso’s global expertise to drive future growth in the mobility technology sector.

Sona Comstar Forges Strategic Alliance with Denso

Sona Comstar has entered into a pivotal strategic partnership with Denso, a global leader in mobility technology, through the formation of two joint ventures. This collaboration marks a significant step in Sona Comstar’s evolution into a comprehensive global mobility technology provider.

Expanding Electrification Capabilities

The partnership comprises two joint ventures. The first JV will concentrate on high voltage electric and hybrid powertrain systems for 4 and 4+ wheel vehicles, covering both passenger and commercial applications. In this venture, Denso will hold the majority stake, contributing technology and intellectual property while leading the business management. This strategic move significantly enhances Sona Comstar’s electrification portfolio, addressing a key gap in high voltage systems and completing its offering across the entire electrification spectrum.

The second JV will focus on 2 and 3-wheelers, an area where Sona Comstar already possesses an established technology position. Sona Comstar will retain majority ownership and management control for this venture. This partnership is expected to extend leadership positions and potentially achieve dominance in the two and three-wheeler segments.

Addressing New Growth Frontiers

Beyond electrification, Sona Comstar is also strategically advancing into Robotics and Physical AI. This emerging technology theme is viewed as a significant long-term growth platform. The company has already entered this space, investing in technology, equipment, and product development, and has secured initial orders totaling ₹8 billion. This diversification into intelligent machines aligns with the company’s broader vision to capture opportunities in evolving technological landscapes.

Financial Performance Highlights

The company reported strong financial results for the quarter ended June 30, 2026 (Q1 FY27). Revenue grew by 54% year-on-year to ₹12,310 crore. EBITDA increased by 49% to ₹303 crore, and net profit rose by 45% to ₹181 crore. Notably, BEV revenue saw a substantial increase of 107%, reflecting the growing momentum in the electric vehicle segment. The company’s net order book stands at a robust ₹240 billion, with EVs accounting for 64%.

This strategic pivot is part of Sona Comstar’s ‘Sona Comstar 2.0’ strategy, aimed at transitioning from a mid-sized automotive components company to a truly large global mobility technology company. The strategy focuses on building new growth platforms through organic innovation and disciplined acquisitions. The company’s ambition is to build another 10x company over the next decade, driven by its core strengths in engineering excellence, disciplined capital allocation, and a clear vision for market leadership.
