Patel Engineering Secures ₹1,593.08 Crore Lower Arun Hydropower Contract in Nepal

Patel Engineering has been declared the lowest bidder (L1) for a major contract under the 669 MW Lower Arun Hydropower Project in Nepal. Valued at ₹1,593.08 crore (inclusive of VAT), the contract involves critical civil and hydro-mechanical works. The project, awarded by SJVN Lower Arun Power Development Company, is scheduled for completion within 54 months, further strengthening the company’s presence in international infrastructure and hydroelectric development.

Contract Details and Project Scope

Patel Engineering has successfully emerged as the lowest bidder for Package 2 of the 669 MW Lower Arun Hydro-Electric Project located in the Sankhuwasabha District of Nepal. This significant contract, valued at ₹1,593.08 crore, encompasses a wide array of technical civil and hydro-mechanical works essential for the project’s success.

The scope of work includes the construction of Adit-5 and Adit-6, which provide access to the Head Race Tunnel, as well as the excavation of a 5.41-kilometer section of the tunnel with a 10.5-meter diameter. Additional components of the contract include the surge shaft, pressure shafts, butterfly valve chamber, power house, switchyard, and tail race channel.

Strategic Significance and Future Outlook

Scheduled to be completed in 54 months, this project is strategically positioned near Tumlingtar, approximately 264 km from Siliguri, India. This win follows the company’s existing involvement in the nearby Arun-3 Hydropower project, highlighting a concentrated operational advantage in the region.

Managing Director Ms. Kavita Shirvairkar noted that this order represents a positive start to Q1 FY27. She emphasized that the project aligns with the company’s mission to support regional energy independence and reflects its long-standing expertise, having completed over 85 dams and 40 hydroelectric projects throughout its 77-year history.
