The Great Eastern Shipping Company Limited has successfully completed the delivery of its 2007-built Medium Range Tanker, “Jag Prakash,” to its buyers. This transaction, initially contracted in Q1 FY27, marks another step in the company’s ongoing fleet optimization strategy. Following this delivery, the company’s owned fleet now comprises 40 vessels, with an aggregate capacity of 3.24 million dwt, maintaining a balanced mix of tanker and dry bulk carrier segments.
Fleet Optimization and Transaction Details
On May 13, 2026, The Great Eastern Shipping Company Limited officially transferred ownership of the Medium Range Tanker “Jag Prakash”. The vessel, which was built in 2007, was part of the company’s strategic divestment program and had been contracted for sale earlier in Q1 FY27.
Current Operational Fleet Status
Following the exit of “Jag Prakash,” the company maintains a robust and diversified fleet of 40 vessels. The fleet composition currently includes 25 tankers—specifically 5 crude tankers, 16 product tankers, and 4 LPG carriers—alongside 15 dry bulk carriers. The dry bulk segment consists of 2 capesize, 10 kamsarmax, 1 ultramax, and 2 supramax vessels, totaling 3.24 million dwt.
Forthcoming Fleet Adjustments
The company remains active in its fleet management initiatives. Management has confirmed that it has contracted to acquire one additional secondhand Medium Range Tanker. Furthermore, the company has entered into a contract for the sale of another of its vessels, the “Jag Pankhi.” Both of these transactions are scheduled for completion within the Q1 FY27 period.
