The company reported an overall growth of 23.0% on a like-to-like basis and 31.7% on a reported basis. Retail health segment growth stood at 35.5% (like-to-like) and 47.1% (reported), with market share increasing to 11.1%. Profit after tax for Q1 FY27 was INR137.8 crore.

Niva Bupa Health Insurance Company Limited has announced its financial and operational performance for the first quarter ended June 30, 2026 (Q1 FY27). The company witnessed robust growth across its key segments, underscoring its strategic initiatives and market position.
Industry and Company Growth
The health insurance industry continues to experience growth, with retail health seeing a 31.6% increase and overall health insurance reporting 22.4% growth. Niva Bupa’s performance outpaced the market, with overall growth at 23.0% on a like-to-like basis and 31.7% on a reported basis. The retail health segment demonstrated particularly strong momentum, growing at 35.5% (like-to-like) and 47.1% (reported). This has led to an increase in the company’s retail market share to 11.1% for Q1 FY27.
Financial Performance
The company reported a profit after tax (PAT) of INR137.8 crore for Q1 FY27. The combined insurance service ratio (CISR) improved significantly to 100.2%, an enhancement from 103.2% in the prior year’s quarter. While the expense ratio saw a slight increase of 90 basis points, this was offset by a 3.8 percentage point reduction in the loss ratio. The expense of management ratio also improved to 35.2% from 38% in Q1 FY26, indicating operational efficiencies.
Key Initiatives and Achievements
Niva Bupa continues to focus on strategic initiatives, including its common empanelment drive with hospitals, now having MOUs with over 3,000 healthcare providers. The company has also achieved a significant milestone by being recognized among the top 50 Great Places to Work in India, ranking 41st. Customer centricity remains a focus, with NPS scores improving to 62 on a blended basis, reflecting feedback from over 20,000 customers monthly. The claims settlement rate stood at 95.6% in Q1.
Network and Digital Engagement
The Preferred Provider Network (PPN) strategy is expanding, now present in 49 cities and encompassing over 1,000 hospitals. The company’s digital platforms are seeing increased engagement, with over 62,000 monthly active users utilizing health checkups and diagnostic services through its app, and approximately 6,600 doctor consults occurring monthly via the app.
Debt and Investment Strategy
The board has approved the formation of a debt-raising committee and an enabling resolution to raise up to INR500 crore. This is in addition to existing NCDs and to support future growth plans. The company’s issuer rating from ICRA is currently AAA. In its investment portfolio, Niva Bupa is increasing its exposure to the AIF segment, yielding between 12% to 15%, and has also increased its allocation to Nifty ETFs.
