Ion Exchange India Realigns Reporting Segments
Ion Exchange (India) Limited has officially reclassified its business reporting structure, a significant move designed to offer greater transparency to its investors. This strategic realignment, which comes into effect from the first quarter of the financial year 2026-27, aims to provide a clearer view of the company’s performance across its various operational verticals.
New Segment Structure
The company’s previous reporting structure, which largely focused on Engineering, Chemicals, and Consumer Products, has been revised. The core engineering segment has now been further delineated into three distinct sub-segments:
- Treatment Solutions: This segment will encompass the company’s core offerings in water and wastewater treatment, including advanced and emerging solutions.
- Industrial Products: This will cover products like standard plants and systems, as well as membranes.
- Lifecycle Services: This segment will focus on O&M, BOOT, BOO, rental, and water-as-a-service models.
These three new sub-segments will now be reported separately, alongside the existing Specialty Chemicals and Consumer Products segments. This revised structure is expected to highlight the growth and contributions of each business unit more effectively.
Rationale Behind Reclassification
Management stated that the reclassification is driven by the company’s evolution beyond its traditional chemical and engineering businesses. The company has been pivoting towards advanced treatment solutions, industrial products, and lifecycle services. This new segmentation is intended to showcase the robust products and services business that has been built over the past several years, which is now substantive enough to stand on its own. This initiative aims to provide a more comprehensive perspective on the company’s performance and its strategic focus areas.
Emphasis on Transparency and Growth
The reclassification is expected to offer increased visibility into the performance of these individual segments, allowing investors to better understand the company’s growth trajectory and strategic investments. The company highlighted that approximately 60% of its business will now comprise products, chemicals, and services, with treatment solutions accounting for about 40%. This move underscores Ion Exchange’s commitment to transparency and its strategy to build scale and profitability across its diverse portfolio.
