Indian Energy Exchange: July Electricity Trade Volume Rises 7.7%

Indian Energy Exchange (IEX) reported a 7.7% year-on-year increase in its monthly electricity traded volume for July 2026, reaching 13,527 MUs. The Real-Time Market saw a substantial 10.2% rise. Despite a decline in Renewable Energy Certificates, the overall performance indicates robust activity in the power market.

IEX Reports Strong July Performance

Indian Energy Exchange (IEX), India’s premier electricity exchange, announced a monthly electricity traded volume of 13,527 Million Units (MUs) for July 2026. This represents a significant 7.7% increase compared to the same period last year, highlighting growing demand and trading activity on the platform. The exchange also noted a strong performance in its Real-Time Market (RTM), which achieved a volume of 5,631 MUs, an increase of 10.2% year-on-year.

Key Market Segment Updates

The Day-Ahead Market (DAM) recorded a volume of 5,087 MUs in July 2026, a decrease of 7.7% year-on-year. In contrast, the Day Ahead Contingency and Term-Ahead Market (TAM) saw a substantial surge, trading 1,774 MUs, up 93.4% year-on-year. The Green Market, encompassing Green Day-Ahead and Green Term-Ahead segments, registered 1,035 MUs, a marginal increase of 0.9% year-on-year.

REC Market Dynamics

The Renewable Energy Certificate (REC) market experienced a decline, with 7.11 lakh RECs traded in July 2026, down 56.3% year-on-year. Despite this volume decrease, trading sessions on July 8th and 29th saw clearing prices of Rs 380/REC and Rs 376/REC, respectively. The exchange has scheduled its next REC trading sessions for August 12th and August 26th, 2026.
