Adani Green Energy Surpasses 20 GW Operational Capacity Milestone

Adani Green Energy Limited (AGEL) has achieved a significant milestone, surpassing 20 GW of operational renewable energy capacity. This makes AGEL the first Indian company to reach this capacity predominantly through greenfield development. The company now generates over 52 billion units of clean electricity annually, contributing significantly to India’s energy security and clean energy transition. AGEL aims to reach 50 GW by 2030.

Adani Green Energy Achieves 20 GW Operational Capacity

Ahmedabad, 1 July 2026 – Adani Green Energy Limited (AGEL), India’s largest renewable energy company, has announced it has surpassed 20 gigawatts (GW) of operational renewable energy capacity. This landmark achievement positions AGEL as the first renewable energy company in India to reach this scale, predominantly through greenfield development.

Significant Contribution to India’s Energy Landscape

AGEL’s operational capacity now generates over 52 billion units of clean electricity annually. This output represents nearly 3% of India’s total electricity consumption and is equivalent to powering New York City for a year, or almost the combined consumption of Mumbai and New Delhi. The company has also installed 3.55 GWh of Battery Energy Storage Systems (BESS), underscoring its commitment to providing reliable, round-the-clock renewable power.

Fastest Greenfield Development in India

This milestone comes within a decade of AGEL commissioning its first renewable energy project at Kamuthi, Tamil Nadu, in 2016. The company added 5,051 megawatts (MW) in FY26, marking the highest annual renewable capacity addition by any company outside China. AGEL’s operational portfolio includes approximately 14.2 GW of solar, 2.7 GW of wind, and 3.3 GW of wind-solar hybrid capacity.

Future Growth and Vision

Commenting on the achievement, Mr. Sagar Adani, Executive Director, AGEL, stated, “Surpassing 20 GW demonstrates what disciplined execution and long-term vision can achieve.” AGEL is focused on leveraging technology to reduce the Levelized Cost of Energy (LCOE) and aims to achieve 50 GW of renewable energy capacity by 2030, aligned with India’s decarbonization goals. The company is developing the world’s largest renewable energy plant (30 GW) in Khavda, Gujarat.

Marquee Projects Highlighted

AGEL’s journey includes several key projects: the 648 MW solar project at Kamuthi, Tamil Nadu (FY16); the 2.1 GW hybrid RE cluster at Jaisalmer, Rajasthan (FY23); the ongoing 30 GW single-location RE plant at Khavda, Gujarat; and 3.55 GWh BESS at Khavda, Gujarat (FY26).
