Paytm Announces Strong Q1 FY 2027 Financial Results

One 97 Communications Limited, the parent company of Paytm, has released its financial results for the first quarter of the financial year 2027 (Q1 FY 2027), ending June 30, 2026. The company has reported a period of accelerated growth and record profitability, driven by its diversified business segments.

Key Financial Highlights

Paytm achieved a 28% Year-on-Year (YoY) increase in revenue, reaching ₹2,448 Cr for the quarter. Simultaneously, the company’s EBITDA saw a substantial surge of 182% YoY, totaling ₹203 Cr. On a quarter-on-quarter (QoQ) basis, revenue grew by 8% and EBITDA by 54%. These figures underscore the company’s enhanced financial performance and operational efficiency.

Growth Drivers and Strategic Focus

The strong results are attributed to broad-based growth across both Payments and Financial Services for Merchant and Consumer Businesses. Paytm emphasizes its strategic focus on leveraging AI-led operating leverage to drive accelerating revenue growth and EBITDA margin expansion, positioning the company for sustainable long-term profit growth. Four key growth engines were identified:

  • Expansion of merchant payments business: Driven by increasing market share and sustained strength in both online and offline segments.
  • Growth in high-margin merchant loan distribution: Compounding growth led by a growing merchant base and enhanced by AI capabilities for engagement, retention, and risk insights.
  • Consumer payments business growing more than 2x industry growth: Achieved through product innovation and AI-optimized consumer acquisition, leading to consistent market share gains.
  • Tailwinds in consumer monetization: Fueled by the distribution of Postpaid, personal loans, and wealth products, transforming consumer monetization into a powerful revenue engine.

AI as a Multiplier for Efficiency and Growth

Artificial Intelligence (AI) is playing a pivotal role in accelerating Paytm’s inherent operating leverage. The company reported that AI is enabling revenue growth to significantly outpace indirect expense growth, thereby supporting further EBITDA margin expansion. AI applications are enhancing decision-making, boosting productivity for merchants, and personalizing consumer experiences. This includes AI agents for engineering to accelerate delivery and sharpen cost discipline, AI agent-powered sales and service for merchants, and AI-led consumer acquisition and retention strategies.

Financial Services Expansion

The Distribution of Financial Services segment also demonstrated robust performance, with revenue growing by 45% YoY to ₹814 Cr. This growth is underpinned by continued momentum in merchant loan distribution, consumer loans, equity broking, and wealth products. The company is seeing positive trends in its high-margin financial services business, with over 50% of merchant loan disbursements going to repeat borrowers, indicating strong credit quality and customer loyalty.

Balance Sheet and Strategic Flexibility

Paytm maintains a strong balance sheet with a cash balance of ₹13,529 Cr, providing significant strategic flexibility for business expansion. The company is exploring attractive organic and inorganic opportunities while maintaining strong capital discipline. Recent international expansion initiatives include obtaining a Payment Institution License in Luxembourg and entering into a partnership in Indonesia for merchant acquiring.

Governance and Long-Term Vision

The company highlighted its commitment to strong governance, built to scale responsibly. This includes a strengthened Board, conservative revenue recognition policies, and a focus on achieving profitable growth without reliance on government subsidies. Paytm’s proactive compliance decisions have positively reflected during recent regulatory transitions.

Outlook

Paytm expressed confidence in achieving a 15-20% EBITDA margin over the next 2-3 years, citing accelerating top-line growth and AI-driven operating leverage. The company also confirmed that its wholly owned subsidiary, Paytm Payments Services Limited (PPSL), has applied for a wallet license, which is expected to further enhance its consumer offerings.
