Patel Engineering Ltd. (PEL) announced on March 20, 2026, that it has been issued a Letter of Award (LOA) for a significant project in Bhutan. The contract, valued at BTN/INR 230.70 crore (excluding taxes), is from Dorjilung Hydro Power Limited (DHPL), a joint venture between Druk Green Power Corporation Limited (Bhutan) and Tata Power Company Limited (India).
This contract covers Package I: Pre-Construction Works for the prestigious 1,125 MW Dorjilung Hydroelectric Power Project. PEL recognizes this project’s strategic importance as it is Bhutan’s largest hydro project under the Public-Private Partnership (PPP) model, designed to support domestic energy needs and enable clean power exports to India.
Scope of Civil and Hydromechanical Works
Under Package I, PEL is responsible for extensive civil and hydromechanical construction. Key scope elements include:
- Construction of two diversion tunnels with diameters of 11.0 m and lengths of 930 m and 821 m, respectively.
- An intermediate adit measuring 7 m in finished diameter and 116 m in length.
- A D-shaped highway road tunnel measuring 11 m × 7.5 m with a length of 500 m.
- Hydromechanical works comprising four sets of vertical lift fixed wheel gates.
The construction timeline is sharply defined, set at 300 days, followed by a one-year Defects Notification Period. The project site is located approximately 7 km from Autsho town in Mongar Dzongkhag, Bhutan.
