Uno Minda Limited has announced the establishment of a second greenfield manufacturing facility in Chhatrapati Sambhajinagar, Maharashtra, dedicated to 4W EV powertrain production. With an investment of ₹550 Crore, this facility will specialize in Electric Drive Units (EDU) and Dedicated Hybrid Transmission (DHT) systems. Backed by new anchor customer orders, the plant is expected to be commissioned by Q2 FY28, strengthening the company’s position in India’s evolving EV landscape.
Strategic Expansion in EV Powertrain
Uno Minda Limited has officially approved the development of a state-of-the-art manufacturing facility in Chhatrapati Sambhajinagar, Maharashtra. This project, executed through its subsidiary Uno Minda Auto Innovations Private Limited (UMAIPL), focuses on the production of high-voltage electric powertrain components. The expansion comes as part of a strategic initiative to meet the rising demand for Electric Drive Units (EDU) and Dedicated Hybrid Transmission (DHT) systems, supported by new orders from a key anchor customer.
Investment and Production Timeline
The facility involves a total estimated investment of ₹550 Crore, which will be financed through a balanced mix of debt and equity. The capital expenditure for this project is planned to be deployed over the next two years. According to the company’s roadmap, the facility is scheduled for commissioning by Q2 FY28.
Strengthening Market Leadership
This development marks the second major EV powertrain project announced by UMAIPL in quick succession. It follows the establishment of their facility in Khed City, Pune, which is currently on track to begin operations in H2 FY27. By scaling its local manufacturing capabilities for Battery Electric Vehicles (BEVs), Hybrid Electric Vehicles (HEVs), and Plug-in Hybrids (PHEVs), Uno Minda is accelerating its efforts to localize high-voltage technologies and maintain a competitive first-mover advantage in the Indian sustainable mobility market.
