Transformers and Rectifiers (India): ₹1,250 Crore Investment in Gujarat Manufacturing Plants

Transformers and Rectifiers (India) Limited (TARIL) has announced a significant investment of ₹1,250 crore to establish three new greenfield manufacturing plants at its Chiyada complex in Gujarat. These facilities will produce critical transformer components, aiming to strengthen India’s power infrastructure, reduce import dependence, and create over 1,000 direct jobs. Commercial operations are expected to commence in Q1 FY2027-28.

Major Expansion in Gujarat

Transformers and Rectifiers (India) Limited (TARIL) has announced a substantial investment of ₹1,250 crore to establish three new greenfield manufacturing plants at its existing complex in Chiyada, Gujarat. This strategic expansion is designed to enhance India’s power infrastructure ecosystem and support the nation’s journey towards self-reliance in critical components.

Focus on Critical Transformer Components

The new facilities will focus on manufacturing essential transformer components, including Bushings (Oil Impregnated Paper – OIP, Resin Impregnated Paper – RIP, and Resin Impregnated Fibre – RIF) up to 800 kV, Pressboard & Insulation Materials, and Continuously Transposed Conductors (CTC). These components are vital for the backbone of high-voltage transformer manufacturing.

Strengthening Domestic Capabilities and Reducing Imports

This investment represents a significant step towards building a more resilient and self-reliant domestic power equipment ecosystem. By localising the manufacturing of these critical components, TARIL aims to reduce import dependence, enhance supply chain resilience, and improve the availability of essential equipment for India’s rapidly expanding transmission and distribution network.

Project Timeline and Expected Impact

Construction of these new facilities commenced in December 2025, with commercial operations anticipated to begin in the first quarter of FY2027-28. Once fully operational, the plants are projected to generate an annual revenue potential of approximately ₹2,000 crore. Furthermore, the expansion is expected to create over 1,000 direct employment opportunities across various functions, including engineering, manufacturing, and quality assurance.

Strategic Vision and Leadership Commentary

Mr. Jitendra Mamtora, Chairman of TARIL, stated that the investment aligns with India’s vision to become a developed nation by 2047, emphasizing the need for robust power infrastructure. Mr. Satyen Mamtora, Managing Director & CEO, highlighted the strategic move towards deep vertical integration, which will provide greater control over quality, lead times, and operational efficiency.

Contribution to National Initiatives

This project reinforces TARIL’s position as a leading transformer manufacturer and supports the Government of India’s ‘Make in India’ and ‘Atmanirbhar Bharat’ initiatives by strengthening indigenous manufacturing capabilities in the power equipment sector.
