New India Assurance Reports Q2 FY27 Financial Results
The New India Assurance Company Limited has announced its unaudited standalone financial results for the quarter and half-year ended September 30, 2026. The company noted that the second quarter of fiscal year 2027 (Q2 FY27) was a challenging period, especially given the prevailing industry conditions. Gross Written Premium (GWP) saw a growth of 5.14% for the quarter, primarily impacted by a steep decline in property rates.
Segment Performance and Underwriting Losses
The property segment experienced significant underwriting losses due to multiple large risk losses and flood claims in Gujarat, North India, and North East India. The Aviation, Motor, and Health segments also reported adverse experiences during the quarter.
Investment Gains and Provisions
On the investment front, the company partially monetized its investment in NSE India, realizing approximately ₹1,800 crore in capital gains. In response to the Supreme Court’s verdict recognizing the economic value of unpaid domestic work for Motor Vehicle Act compensation, the company has recognized an additional provision of ₹715 crore for its Motor Third-Party portfolio. Despite the lack of premium revision in the Motor TP segment, the company’s solvency ratio remains favorable at 1.61x, above the IRDAI control level of 1.5x.
Outlook and Strategic Focus
The company noted that property premiums are showing signs of stability. Moving forward, The New India Assurance is focusing on enhancing operational efficiencies through improved underwriting, technological advancements in claims management for health and motor lines, and the introduction of innovative solutions to drive sustainable and profitable growth.
