However, the proceedings remained at the notice stage, and the Hon’ble Court granted additional time for the appearance of the Respondents. Consequently, the case has been adjourned and is now scheduled for its next hearing on September 22, 2026.
Background of the Appeal
This appeal is in continuation of previous intimations filed on May 06, 2026, and August 11, 2026. The core of the dispute involves the EPF’s view that NEEM trainees should be treated as ’employees’ under the Employees’ Provident Funds and Miscellaneous Provisions Act, 1952. TeamLease Skills University (TLSU), a subsidiary, argues that the NEEM scheme expressly excludes trainees from such classification, forming a key ground for their challenge.
The initial order received under Para 26B of the EPF Scheme did not quantify any provident fund dues, interest, or damages, indicating no immediate financial impact. However, the matter is disclosed as a contingent liability in the company’s consolidated financial statements.
