Tata Steel Limited has announced the successful completion of its divestment of entire stake in Jamshedpur Football and Sporting Private Limited (JFSPL). This transaction, executed under a Share Purchase Agreement with Churchill Brothers Sports Club Private Limited, means JFSPL is no longer a subsidiary. Despite this divestment, Tata Steel reaffirms its commitment to developing grassroots sports and enhancing India’s sporting ecosystem through continued investment in various sporting disciplines and academies.
Divestment of Jamshedpur Football and Sporting Private Limited Completed
Tata Steel Limited has officially completed the divestment of its entire stake in its wholly-owned subsidiary, Jamshedpur Football and Sporting Private Limited (JFSPL). The transaction, finalized on August 31, 2026, followed the execution of a Share Purchase Agreement (SPA) with Churchill Brothers Sports Club Private Limited. This completion signifies that JFSPL has now ceased to be a subsidiary of Tata Steel.
Continued Commitment to Sports Development
Despite the divestment of JFSPL, Tata Steel emphasized its enduring commitment to fostering sports development in India. The company plans to continue investing in its long-standing legacy of developing grassroots sports, expanding access to athletic opportunities, and strengthening the nation’s sporting infrastructure. This includes further enhancing the Tata Football Academy, which has a proven track record of producing national team players. Tata Steel will also focus on modernizing its youth sports systems, including its football training centers managed by the Tata Steel Foundation. These centers have been instrumental in developing a significant number of players for Jharkhand’s youth teams.
Broad Sporting Portfolio
Tata Steel’s involvement in sports extends beyond football, encompassing 19 different disciplines. The company actively operates four world-class sporting academies dedicated to archery, hockey, sport climbing, and rowing. The Tata Archery Academy, a leading institution in India, boasts several Olympians among its alumni. Similarly, the Naval Tata Hockey Academy provides high-level training and conditioning. Furthermore, Tata Steel Chess India, a prominent rapid and blitz chess tournament held in Kolkata, is recognized as the only such event in Asia and is part of the Grand Chess Tour, attracting top international players.
