Tata Power Renewable Energy Limited (TPREL) has announced the commissioning of a 100 MW solar project in Tamil Nadu, bringing its total utility portfolio to 12.3 GW. This milestone surpasses 7 GW of operational capacity, with an additional 5.3 GW pipeline set for commissioning. TPREL Achieves Major Renewable Energy Milestone
Tata Power Renewable Energy Limited (TPREL), a subsidiary of The Tata Power Company Limited, has successfully commissioned its 100 MW Group Captive Solar Project at Vellalankottai and Nalandhula villages in Kayathar, Tamil Nadu. This achievement marks a significant expansion for TPREL, pushing its total utility renewable energy portfolio to 12.3 GW and surpassing the landmark of 7 GW in operational capacity.
Project Highlights and Impact
The newly commissioned project is designed to generate 240.63 million units (MUs) of clean electricity annually, offsetting approximately 1.5 lakh tonnes of CO2 emissions per annum. A key feature of this project is the deployment of India’s first-of-its-kind Flexible Terrain Compatible (FTC) Single Axis Tracker technology, equipped with 2,61,660 Mono PERC bifacial solar modules. This technology is engineered to maximize energy generation and operational efficiency across varied terrain conditions.
Expanding Clean Energy Footprint
The project will supply clean power to TP Solar Limited (40.625 MW), Tata Electronics Private Limited (53.125 MW), and Tata Realty And Infrastructure Limited (6.25 MW), aligning with the Tata Group’s commitment to sustainable operations and India’s clean energy transition. TPREL’s current operational capacity comprises over 5.7 GW of solar and 1.3 GW of wind energy assets. Furthermore, TPREL has an additional 5.3 GW of projects, including 2.2 GW of solar and 3.1 GW of wind, under various stages of development and slated for phased commissioning over the next 6 to 24 months.
