Environmental and Capacity Impact
The newly commissioned solar project is poised to supply green energy to Tata Steel through TP Vardhman Surya Limited, a TPREL subsidiary. It is projected to generate approximately 166 Million Units (MUs) of green energy annually. This substantial generation capacity will help offset around 1,18,856 tonnes of carbon emissions per annum, thereby supporting Tata Steel’s ambitious decarbonization and sustainability objectives.
Project Details and Contribution
The project utilizes 1,71,360 solar modules, manufactured by TP Solar Limited, underscoring integrated manufacturing capabilities. This initiative is a critical component of advancing Tata Steel’s decarbonization journey and further solidifies TPREL’s role in augmenting India’s renewable energy capacity.
TPREL’s Growing Portfolio
TPREL continues to expand its renewable energy offerings across various industrial sectors. With the addition of this project, TPREL’s total renewable utility capacity has reached 12.3 GW. Of this, approximately 7 GW is currently operational, comprising 5.7 GW of solar and 1.3 GW of wind capacity. An additional 5.3 GW is in various stages of implementation, expected to be commissioned over the next 6-24 months.
This development aligns with India’s target of achieving 500 GW of non-fossil fuel capacity by 2030 and reinforces Tata Power’s vision for a sustainable energy future.
