Tata Chemicals Board Approves ₹100 Crore Salt Capacity Expansion

Tata Chemicals has announced a strategic investment of ₹100 crore to enhance the production capacity of its Iodised Vacuum Salt Dried (IVSD) plant in Mithapur. This debottlenecking project will add 82,500 TPA to the existing 1.60 MTPA capacity. The initiative aims to cater to the rising market demand for high-quality salt, with completion expected within the next 12 months.

Strategic Production Enhancement

During its board meeting held on May 4, 2026, Tata Chemicals approved a capital expenditure of ₹100 crore. This investment is specifically targeted at the debottlenecking of the company’s salt manufacturing facility at Mithapur. The upgrade is expected to boost production output by 82,500 TPA, effectively supporting the company’s growth objectives.

Capacity and Market Outlook

Currently, the Mithapur facility operates with an existing capacity of 1.60 MTPA, maintaining a strong capacity utilization rate of 92%. The planned expansion is designed to address the increasing consumer demand for Iodised Vacuum Salt Dried (IVSD). The company intends to finance this project through a mix of funding options, primarily leveraging its internal accruals. The construction and integration of this additional capacity are slated for completion within a timeframe of 12 months.
