Telecom Dispute Resolution

Sterlite Technologies Limited (STL) has announced a favorable outcome in a significant legal matter concerning a demand notice issued by the Department of Telecommunications (DoT). On August 24, 2020, the DoT had levied a demand of ₹8.56 Crore against STL, citing alleged violations of its IP-I Registration terms. The company actively contested this demand.

Arbitral Award Upheld

The dispute was adjudicated by Justice Kailash Gambhir (Retd.), who served as the Sole Arbitrator. In a favorable ruling dated May 17, 2023, the Arbitral Award completely quashed the demand raised by the DoT. Subsequently, the DoT challenged this award by filing a petition under Section 34 of the Arbitration and Conciliation Act, 1996, before the Hon’ble High Court of Delhi.
