SJVN Limited has announced the successful achievement of Commercial Operation Date (COD) for its 75 MW Jamui Solar Power Project located in Bihar. Executed by its wholly-owned subsidiary, SJVN Green Energy Limited (SGEL), the project represents a significant milestone in SJVN’s renewable energy expansion. It is expected to generate approximately 90 million units of electricity annually, contributing to India’s renewable energy targets.

SJVN Limited has successfully achieved the Commercial Operation Date (COD) for its 75 MW Jamui Solar Power Project in Jamui District, Bihar. This milestone was accomplished through its wholly-owned subsidiary, SJVN Green Energy Limited (SGEL), marking a key advancement in the company’s renewable energy portfolio.
Project Details and Impact
The 75 MW project, developed over approximately 300 acres, is estimated to generate around 90 million units of electricity in its first year of operation and an estimated 3,522 million units cumulatively over 25 years. The project cost is pegged at ₹1,342 crore, with a competitive tariff of ₹2.96 per unit for the power generated. The electricity produced will be supplied to the State of Bihar.
This initiative is a significant contribution to the Government of India’s goal of achieving 500 GW of renewable energy capacity by 2030. Beyond supplying clean energy, the project is anticipated to reduce carbon emissions by approximately 82,250.74 tonnes annually, aligning with the country’s decarbonisation objectives and climate commitments.
Economic and Employment Contribution
The commissioning of the Jamui Solar Power Project is expected to stimulate local economic development and create employment opportunities. It has generated approximately 15-20 direct employment opportunities and around 5,100 indirect employment opportunities, contributing to the creation of green jobs in the region.

The project was developed pursuant to a tender floated by the Bihar Renewable Energy Development Agency (BREDA). The successful commissioning reinforces SGEL’s commitment to expanding renewable energy projects nationwide and supports SJVN’s vision to become a leading renewable energy company, contributing to a cleaner and more sustainable energy future for India.
