SJVN Commissions 75 MW Solar Power Project in Bihar
SJVN Limited has successfully achieved the Commercial Operation Date (COD) for its significant 75 MW Jamui Solar Power Project, situated in the Jamui District of Bihar. This development was executed through SJVN’s wholly-owned subsidiary, SJVN Green Energy Limited (SGEL), underscoring the company’s continuous progress in expanding its renewable energy portfolio.
Project Details and Impact
The newly commissioned solar project spans approximately 300 acres of land and was developed at an estimated cost of ₹342 crore. It is projected to generate around 90 million units of electricity annually during its first year of operation, with cumulative generation expected to reach 3,522 million units over 25 years. The tariff for the electricity generated has been fixed at ₹2.96 per unit, ensuring affordable and clean green power supply to the state of Bihar.
Furthermore, the project is poised to foster local economic development by creating an estimated 15-20 direct and 50-100 indirect employment opportunities. This initiative aligns with the Government of India’s ambitious target of achieving 500 GW of renewable energy capacity by 2030 and is anticipated to reduce approximately 82,250.74 tonnes of carbon emissions annually, supporting the nation’s climate commitments.
The development of the Jamui Solar Power Project was undertaken pursuant to a tender floated by the Bihar Renewable Energy Development Agency (BREDA). This successful commissioning reinforces SGEL’s commitment to developing renewable energy infrastructure across India and advances SJVN’s vision to become a leading entity in the renewable energy sector.
