Shriram Finance Achieves Higher ESG Rating

Shriram Finance Limited (SFL) has announced a revision in its Environmental, Social, and Governance (ESG) Impact Rating, moving from 82 (Outstanding) to 83 (Outstanding). This update was provided by ICRA ESG Ratings Limited, a SEBI Registered ESG Rating Provider.

Key Drivers for Rating Improvement

The enhanced rating is primarily attributed to notable developments in SFL’s environmental and governance parameters. While the social profile of the company remained stable, improvements in environmental management and disclosure frameworks, alongside strengthened governance practices, contributed to the upward revision.

Environmental Enhancements

SFL has shown progress in its environmental initiatives, including strengthened environmental management and disclosure, improved data accuracy for energy consumption and emissions, and expanded Scope 3 reporting for financed emissions. The company reported a reduction in Scope 1, 2, and financed emission intensities. Additionally, SFL has been scaling its green finance initiatives, with its green portfolio increasing by Rs. 1,400 crore.

Governance Strengthening

The governance profile has been bolstered by synergies with MUFG’s association, transparent disclosures, and enhanced Board oversight. The Board strength increased to twelve directors, bringing global banking and governance expertise. SFL’s sustainability strategy is further supported by its Green Finance Vertical and alignment with Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs).

Social Profile Remains Strong

Shriram Finance’s social score remained unchanged at 91 (Outstanding), supported by its continued focus on financial inclusion, livelihood generation, and community development. The company maintains extensive employee welfare benefits and a stable employee health and safety profile.

Rating Rationale and Outlook

The rating rationale highlights SFL’s strengthened ESG framework and focus on sustainable financing. ICRA ESG notes the company’s established governance practices and strategic capabilities. The revision reflects a broader integration of ESG considerations across its value chain. The rating was effective July 31, 2026.
