PVR INOX has opened its first SMART Cinema in Muzaffarpur, Bihar, marking a strategic expansion into India’s emerging growth markets. PVR INOX Limited announced the opening of its first SMART Cinema in Muzaffarpur, Bihar, on September 4, 2026. This move signifies the company’s strategic initiative to expand its presence in India’s emerging growth markets, specifically targeting Tier III cities.
Network Expansion and Technology
The new four-screen property at ICON Plaza Mall is equipped with Christie’s 4K RGB laser projection system, high-fidelity 7.1 surround sound, and last-row recliner seating, offering a premium movie-watching experience. With this addition, PVR INOX now operates 11 screens in Bihar and a total of 1,785 screens across 356 properties in 114 cities in India and Sri Lanka. The SMART Cinema model is designed to be capital-efficient and asset-light.
Strategic Growth in Tier III Cities
Mr. Ajay Bijli, Managing Director of PVR INOX Limited, stated that SMART Cinemas represent the next step in bringing the company’s experience to a new generation of audiences in India’s growth markets. Muzaffarpur, with its strong commercial and cultural identity, is seen as an important beginning for this expansion. Mr. Sanjeev Kumar Bijli, Executive Director, highlighted that the asset-light model allows for closer collaboration with local developers and entrepreneurs, enabling efficient network building while maintaining high standards.
Partnership and Future Outlook
The Muzaffarpur property was developed in partnership with ICON Plaza Mall. Mr. Amar Nath Pandey and Mr. Raghav Pandey, Directors at ICON Plaza Mall, expressed confidence in PVR INOX’s brand and reach to enhance footfall and bring a unique entertainment experience to the city. They are actively exploring opportunities to expand such cinemas in other cities within the state.
The cinema is now open to the public, with show timings and ticket bookings available through the PVR INOX website, mobile application, and online aggregator platforms.
