Power Grid Corporation of India Limited (POWERGRID) delivered a robust performance for the fiscal year ended March 31, 2026. The company achieved a consolidated Profit After Tax (PAT) of ₹15,928 crore, representing a 3% increase year-over-year. Driven by massive capital expenditure and a strategic focus on renewable energy integration, the utility has successfully expanded its transmission network, maintaining high system availability and reinforcing its position as a key enabler of India’s energy transition.

Financial Highlights and Performance

During the fiscal year 2026, POWERGRID demonstrated strong financial discipline and operational success. The company’s consolidated total income reached ₹47,684 crore. A significant achievement for the year was the company’s capital expenditure, which reached ₹40,000 crore, surpassing initial guidance. This was supported by a strong balance sheet, with gross fixed assets exceeding ₹3 lakh crore and a net worth of ₹1,00,494 crore. Furthermore, the company maintained an impressive system availability of 99.84%, ensuring reliable power transmission across the nation.

Strategic Infrastructure and Technological Adoption

The company continues to lead in technology and grid stability. Key milestones include the commissioning of the world’s first 765 kV digital substation and the first BESS (Battery Energy Storage System) project under the bidding route. Innovation remains at the forefront, with the deployment of AI-based defect detection, drone-based patrolling, and the introduction of Asia’s first transformer with synthetic ester oil, which is both biodegradable and fire-safe.

Expanding Future Opportunities

POWERGRID is well-positioned for future growth with a strong project pipeline. The company has ₹1.7 lakh crore of works in hand, including both TBCB and RTM projects, alongside an additional ₹1.1 lakh crore in the bidding pipeline. With a commitment to India’s net-zero vision, the company is actively expanding its transmission network to support renewable energy corridors, green hydrogen evacuation, and intercontinental cross-border links. Looking ahead, POWERGRID has provided an initial CapEx guidance of ₹37,000 crore for FY27, reflecting its continued focus on sustaining long-term growth and delivering reliable returns to stakeholders.
