Oil and Natural Gas Corporation Limited (ONGC) has successfully commissioned gas evacuation facilities at Khoraghat GGS-1 in Assam. This development connects surplus natural gas from the Upper Assam Shelf to the North East Gas Grid (NEGG), a crucial step for processing and evacuating the gas. The initiative complements the Dergaon-Dimapur Pipeline, integrating Nagaland into the NEGG and National Gas Grid, facilitating the utilization of nearly 1 lakh SCM of gas per day from ONGC’s Jorhat asset. Further hook-up facilities at Jantapathar and Kasomarigaon are also underway.
ONGC Commissions Gas Evacuation Facilities in Assam
Oil and Natural Gas Corporation Limited (ONGC) announced the successful commissioning of gas evacuation facilities at its Khoraghat GGS-1 site in the Golaghat district of Assam. This significant development, confirmed on August 18, 2026, allows for the processing and evacuation of surplus associated natural gas sourced from the Upper Assam Shelf. The gas will be channeled through the North East Gas Grid (NEGG), a project developed by Indradhanush Gas Grid Limited (IGGL).
Expanding Regional Connectivity and Gas Utilization
The commissioning of these facilities serves as a key complement to the recently operationalized Dergaon-Dimapur Pipeline. This pipeline has successfully connected Nagaland to both the North East Gas Grid and the broader National Gas Grid. Consequently, the new infrastructure will facilitate the daily utilization of approximately 1 lakh Standard Cubic Metres (SCM) of gas originating from ONGC’s Jorhat asset. This increased gas availability is expected to support economic and infrastructure development across Assam and the wider North-East region.
Future Enhancements and Economic Impact
ONGC is further strengthening its gas infrastructure by developing additional hook-up facilities at Jantapathar and Kasomarigaon. These projects are designed to connect more producing fields from the Jorhat Asset directly to the North East Gas Grid. The initiative aims to significantly augment gas availability in the region, reduce flaring practices, and bolster the gas-based economy. The improved gas availability is anticipated to create new opportunities for households, industries, transportation, and power generation.
