NHPC Limited has announced the commencement of commercial operations for the fourth unit of the Subansiri Lower HE Project. With this milestone, four out of the eight planned 250 MW units are now operational. This advancement represents a significant step forward in the company’s efforts to scale up its renewable energy capacity in the Assam and Arunachal Pradesh region, further strengthening India’s hydroelectric power infrastructure.
Advancing Renewable Energy Capacity
NHPC Limited has successfully achieved a new operational milestone for the Subansiri Lower HE Project. Effective from 00:00 hours on May 8, 2026, the company has declared the Commercial Operation (CoD) of Unit #4. This unit, with a capacity of 250 MW, marks the latest addition to the 2000 MW project, which consists of eight units of 250 MW each.
Project Status and Future Outlook
With the successful commissioning of the fourth unit, the project has reached a 50% completion rate regarding the number of operational units. Units 1, 2, 3, and 4 are now fully functional and contributing to the grid. NHPC Limited has confirmed that the details regarding the commercial operation of the remaining four units will be communicated in the upcoming stages of the project’s development.
