Marico Limited has announced that its flagship Jalashay Programme has generated a cumulative 547 crore litres of water conservation potential across Maharashtra, Gujarat, Pondicherry, and Tamil Nadu by the end of FY26. This initiative underscores the company’s commitment to water stewardship, achieving water neutrality in 25% of its manufacturing units and a 24% reduction in water consumption intensity since FY22.
Marico Celebrates World Water Week with Major Conservation Milestone
On the occasion of World Water Week 2026, themed “Water for People and Progress,” Marico Limited, a leading Indian FMCG company, announced that its Jalashay Programme has successfully created a cumulative water conservation potential of 547 crore litres. This achievement spans across Maharashtra, Gujarat, Pondicherry, and Tamil Nadu, as of Fiscal Year 2026.
Sustainable Business Growth and Water Stewardship
The Jalashay Programme is rooted in the belief that sustainable business growth must align with environmental responsibility. Operating across four Indian states, the program partners with local communities to enhance water availability, bolster agricultural resilience, and promote responsible natural resource management. Through infrastructure development, community engagement, and sustainable farming practices, the initiative contributes significantly to both environmental sustainability and rural livelihoods.
Operational Efficiency and Water Neutrality
Beyond community-led efforts, Marico is reinforcing sustainable water management within its operations. The company’s water stewardship approach aims to create a higher water credit by maintaining a lower water debit. Marico is driving efficient water use through optimized resource consumption, advanced treatment systems, and responsible manufacturing. Reflecting this, 25% of Marico’s manufacturing footprint in water-stressed zones has achieved water neutrality certification. Notably, its manufacturing facilities in Perundurai, Tamil Nadu, and Puducherry have both achieved independently verified Zero Liquid Discharge (ZLD) status. Furthermore, the company recorded a significant 24% reduction in water consumption intensity in FY26 compared to the FY22 baseline.
Impact on Communities and Vision 2030
Amit Bhasin, Chief Legal Officer, Group General Counsel and Secretary of the CSR Committee at Marico Limited, stated, “At Marico, we believe that long-term progress is intrinsically linked to the well-being and resilience of the communities we serve. Through the Jalashay Programme, we are helping create sustainable access to water while empowering communities to become active custodians of this critical natural resource.”
A prime example of the program’s impact is in Jalgaon, Maharashtra, where the initiative has generated 70 crore litres of water potential, benefiting over 4,000 farmers and improving water access in seven villages. This intervention has been recognized for its contribution to water conservation and community development.
ESG Commitment and Future Outlook
Water stewardship remains a cornerstone of Marico’s broader sustainability agenda and ESG 2030 roadmap. The company aims for water neutrality certification across 100% of its manufacturing units located in water-stressed zones. The Jalashay initiative has also garnered national recognition, receiving the Mahatma Award for Water Management.
As Marico advances towards its Vision 2030 aspiration of becoming a leading diversified digital-first consumer goods company, initiatives like Jalashay demonstrate the creation of lasting environmental and social value, contributing to inclusive and sustainable growth.
