Promoter Equity Sale by Government

Life Insurance Corporation of India (LIC) has disclosed a substantial sale of equity shares by its promoter, the President of India, acting through the Ministry of Finance. The transaction, conducted on August 4, 2026, involved the offer for sale of up to 31,62,49,885 equity shares. This quantity represents approximately 2.50% of the total issued and paid-up equity share capital of LIC.

Offer for Sale Details

The offer for sale was executed through a separate designated window of both the BSE Limited (BSE) and the National Stock Exchange of India Limited (NSE). This move is in line with comprehensive guidelines for offer for sale (OFS) processes issued by SEBI. The disclosure highlights a material change in the promoter’s holding, impacting the overall ownership structure of the corporation.

Additional Oversubscription Option

In addition to the base offer size, the promoter also had an option to additionally sell 50,59,99,816 equity shares, which would amount to a further 4.00% of the total equity capital. The announcement also noted that up to 50,00,000 equity shares were offered to eligible employees of LIC under specific terms.
