Life Insurance Corporation of India (LIC) announced its standalone and consolidated financial results for the quarter ended June 30, 2026. The company reported a 22.81% increase in Profit After Tax (PAT), reaching ₹13,492 crore. Value of New Business (VNB) saw a significant jump of 61.32% to ₹3,136 crore, with VNB Margin (Net) improving to 22.9%. Total Premium Income grew by 6.75% to ₹1,27,250 crore.
LIC Reports Strong Q1 FY27 Financial Performance
Life Insurance Corporation of India (LIC) today announced its standalone and consolidated financial results for the first quarter of the Financial Year 2026-2027, ending June 30, 2026. The company has demonstrated robust growth across key financial and operational metrics.
Profitability and Business Growth
Profit After Tax (PAT) for the quarter rose by an impressive 22.81%, amounting to ₹13,492 crore, compared to ₹10,986 crore in the same quarter of the previous year. The Value of New Business (VNB) showed a substantial increase of 61.32%, reaching ₹3,136 crore. This growth was accompanied by an expansion in the VNB Margin (Net), which improved by 750 basis points to 22.9%.
Premium Income and Market Share
Total Premium Income for the quarter increased by 6.75% to ₹1,27,250 crore from ₹1,19,200 crore in the corresponding period of FY2025-26. Individual New Business Premium Income grew by 14.48% to ₹14,351 crore. Overall Annualised Premium Equivalent (APE) stood at ₹13,692 crore, marking an increase of 8.22%.
LIC maintained its leading position in the Indian life insurance market, holding an overall market share of 60.10% by First Year Premium Income (FYPI). The company secured a market share of 38.89% in the Individual business and 70.90% in the Group business for the quarter.
Key Operational Metrics
The Solvency Ratio improved to 2.42 as of June 30, 2026, from 2.17 a year prior. Assets Under Management (AUM) saw a healthy increase of 4.10%, reaching ₹59,39,384 crore. The Overall Expense Ratio increased by 16 basis points to 10.63%.
In terms of policy sales, the number of policies sold in the individual segment increased by 2.06% to 31,02,281 policies.
CEO’s Remarks
Shri R Doraiswamy, CEO & MD of LIC, expressed satisfaction with the company’s performance, highlighting the sustained leadership in both Individual and Group Business amidst increasing competition. He attributed the growth in VNB and VNB margin to product diversification and distribution strategies.
He also welcomed new shareholders following the Government of India’s Offer for Sale (OFS) and thanked existing shareholders for their continued trust.
