KPI Green Energy Limited’s subsidiary, Sun Drops Energia Limited, has signed a Battery Energy Storage Purchase Agreement (BESPA) with Gujarat Urja Vikas Nigam Limited (GUVNL). The project involves the development of a 120 MW / 240 MWh standalone battery energy storage system. This agreement, supported by Viability Gap Funding (VGF), pushes the company’s cumulative standalone BESS portfolio to 565 MW / 1,130 MWh, further cementing its role in India’s renewable energy infrastructure.
Strategic Expansion in Energy Storage
The company continues to bolster its footprint in the renewable energy sector through its subsidiary, Sun Drops Energia Limited. By executing this new agreement with GUVNL, the company is set to own and operate a 120 MW / 240 MWh standalone Battery Energy Storage System (BESS). This project was won under a competitive bidding process under the Phase-VIII tender, highlighting the company’s competitive capabilities in the utility-scale storage space.
Project Details and Locations
The project will be strategically developed at two key locations in the state of Gujarat. Specifically, facilities will be established in the vicinity of the 220kV Gariyadhar AIS Substation, providing 65 MW / 130 MWh of capacity, and the 220kV Otha AIS Substation, providing 55 MW / 110 MWh. These sites will ensure that the battery energy storage capacity is available to GUVNL on a long-term basis, supporting the stability of the grid.
Strengthening Portfolio Growth
This latest development marks a significant milestone for the group, following a previous agreement for 445 MW / 890 MWh. Combined, these projects bring the company’s cumulative executed standalone BESS portfolio to a substantial 565 MW / 1,130 MWh. By leveraging Viability Gap Funding (VGF) through the Power System Development Fund (PSDF), the company remains well-positioned to capitalize on emerging opportunities within the rapidly growing renewable energy infrastructure market.
