Distinguished Career of Dr. Madhuri Kanitkar
Dr. Madhuri Kanitkar is a retired Lieutenant General (65 yrs.) from the Indian Army, holding prestigious ranks such as PVSM, AVSM, and VSM. She is recognized as the third woman in the Indian Armed Forces to achieve a Three-star rank and previously served as the Deputy Chief of Integrated Defence Staff (Medical). With nearly 39 years of service, she is lauded for her administrative acumen, institution-building capabilities, and strategic contributions to health-care governance.
Dr. Kanitkar has also been a member of the Prime Minister’s Science, Technology and Innovation Advisory Council (PM-STIAC), influencing national science and health policy. Her academic background includes graduating from the Armed Forces Medical College, Pune, where she excelled and received the President’s Gold Medal. Her professional journey includes significant roles in pediatric nephrology and leadership positions within the Army Medical Corps and educational institutions.
She has received numerous accolades, including the GOC-in-C Commendation Card and multiple commendations from the Chief of the Army Staff. She was also awarded the Vishisht Seva Medal (VSM), Ati Vishisht Seva Medal (AVSM), and Param Vishisht Seva Medal (PVSM). Notably, she served as the Vice-Chancellor of the Maharashtra University of Health Sciences from July 2021 to October 2025.
