JSW Steel has secured its position as a Sustainability Champion for the eighth consecutive year, according to an announcement on April 17, 2026. This prestigious recognition from the World Steel Association validates the company’s robust commitment to the Sustainability Charter, which governs environmental, social, governance, and economic (ESGE) dimensions of steel production.
Strategic Commitment to Decarbonization
Jayant Acharya, Joint Managing Director and CEO of JSW Steel, emphasized that sustainability is a core pillar of the company’s long-term business strategy. The firm has set ambitious targets, including a 42% reduction in CO2 emissions from its steel-making operations by 2030 and a commitment to reach net-neutral carbon emissions by 2050. Furthermore, the company aims to power its production entirely through renewable energy by the end of the decade.
Operational Growth and Innovation
Currently, JSW Steel operates with a consolidated crude steel capacity of 35.9 MTPA, with significant expansion plans underway to reach 43.4 MTPA within the next three years. The company’s focus on high-value special steel and its Sustainable Energy Environment & Decarbonisation (SEED) project continue to drive its industry-leading performance. As of December 2025, JSW Steel is ranked 6th among the top 34 world-class steelmakers, reflecting its disciplined approach to both growth and environmental stewardship.
