IRB Infrastructure Developers has announced that the Meerut to Budaun corridor of the Ganga Expressway (Group 1) will commence trial traffic operations on April 30, 2026. Following the project’s inauguration by the Prime Minister, tolling operations are set to begin shortly. This milestone is part of a broader investment of approximately ₹25,000 crore by the IRB Group in the Uttar Pradesh highway sector, aimed at enhancing connectivity across Northern India.
Strategic Connectivity Milestone
The inauguration of the six-lane greenfield Ganga Expressway marks a significant achievement for IRB Infrastructure Trust. The project SPV, Meerut Budaun Expressway Limited, is now ready to begin trial run traffic operations. This corridor serves as a vital link between the National Capital Region (NCR) and eastern Uttar Pradesh, significantly reducing travel times by approximately 50%.
Project Highlights and Economic Impact
The 129.7 km project was executed with a total cost of ₹6,538 crore. Key features of this infrastructure development include:
- 1 km long bridge over the river Ganga.
- 9 major flyovers, 5 major bridges, and 14 minor bridges.
- 90 vehicular underpasses to ensure seamless connectivity.
- Traverses 6 districts of Uttar Pradesh, including Meerut, Hapur, Bulandshahar, Amroha, Sambhal, and Budaun.
Commitment to Infrastructure Growth
With the successful commissioning of this expressway, all projects within the Trust’s portfolio are now revenue-generating. The IRB Group maintains a strong presence in the state, with its total investment in Uttar Pradesh highways reaching ₹25,000 crore. These assets include a mix of BOT (Build-Operate-Transfer) and TOT (Toll-Operate-Transfer) projects, such as the Agra-Etawah and Lucknow-Ayodhya-Gorakhpur corridors. The group continues to lead the Indian toll road sector, managing a portfolio of 28 highways spanning approximately 17,500 lane kms across 13 states.
