IOB: RBI Inspection Adjusts Risk-Weighted Assets and Capital Ratios

Indian Overseas Bank (IOB) has disclosed observations from an RBI inspection concerning the applicability of risk weights for certain corporate exposures. These observations have led to adjustments in the bank’s Risk Weighted Assets (RWA) and Capital to Risk-weighted Assets Ratio (CRAR) as of March 31, 2026. While these adjustments were factored in, the bank’s reported net profit remains unaffected. IOB’s capital ratios continue to exceed the minimum regulatory requirements.

RBI Inspection Observations Impact RWA and CRAR

Indian Overseas Bank (IOB) has informed stakeholders about key observations made during the Reserve Bank of India’s (RBI) Supervisory Evaluation (ISE) 2026. These observations pertained to the incorrect application of risk weights for specific corporate exposures, including ECB loans under syndication where external ratings were not fully comprehensive, or the lead bank wasn’t identified. Additionally, issues with undisbursed exposures due to master setup in the Core Banking Solution (CBS) led to under-reporting of total exposure as of March 31, 2026.

Key Financial Metrics Adjusted

As a result of these observations, the bank’s calculated Risk Weighted Assets (RWA) and Capital to Risk-weighted Assets Ratio (CRAR) have been assessed by the RBI. As of March 31, 2026, the RBI-assessed Total Risk Weighted Assets stand at ₹2,05,323.69 crore, compared to the bank’s calculated figure of ₹1,97,931.60 crore. Common Equity Tier 1 (CET 1) Capital was assessed at ₹33,514.49 crore, and Total Capital at ₹39,133.98 crore.

Consequently, the CET1 CRAR (%), Tier I CRAR (%), and Total CRAR (%) have been adjusted. The assessed CET1 CRAR is 16.32%, Tier I CRAR is 2.74%, and Total CRAR is 19.06%. The assessed Leverage Ratio is 6.58%. IOB has confirmed that these adjustments do not impact the net profit reported as of March 31, 2026, and all capital ratios remain well above the RBI’s minimum stipulated levels.

Forward-Looking Impact

The bank has already incorporated these RBI observations into its RWA and CRAR calculations for the quarter ending September 30, 2026. This disclosure is provided for information and appropriate dissemination to the relevant parties.
