Bengaluru, India – September 9, 2026: Infosys Foundation, the philanthropic arm of Infosys, has pledged a significant grant of over INR 31 crore to Madras Medical College (MMC). This substantial funding is earmarked to enhance cardio-obstetric care for pregnant women, specifically by establishing advanced facilities at the Rajiv Gandhi Government General Hospital (RGGGH) in Chennai.
New Units and Research Support
The grant will facilitate the creation of an exclusive cardio-obstetric outpatient unit and a state-of-the-art catheterization laboratory at RGGGH. These new facilities are designed to strengthen the hospital’s capacity to manage heart-related complications during pregnancy, aiming to reduce maternal mortality. Additionally, the funding will support MMC’s research programs, including the ‘National Pregnancy and Cardiac Diseases (NPAC) study’ and the ‘Tamil Nadu Pregnancy and Heart Disease Registry (TNPHDR)’, which seek to develop better care protocols for heart disease in pregnancy.
Broader Collaboration and Impact
This initiative is part of a wider collaboration between Infosys Foundation and MMC. In August 2024, the Foundation had previously inaugurated a high-risk antenatal ward at the Institute of Social Obstetrics. Infosys Foundation’s commitment underscores its dedication to addressing healthcare challenges and promoting women’s health. Dr. K. G. Arunraj, Hon’ble Minister for Health, Medical Education and Family Welfare, Government of Tamil Nadu, and other dignitaries graced the inauguration ceremony, highlighting the importance of this partnership.
