The outlook remains stable, indicating sustained positive performance expectations.

IOB’s Credit Rating Enhanced by CARE Ratings

Indian Overseas Bank (IOB) has received a significant credit rating upgrade from CARE Ratings. The rating for its Basel III Tier II Bonds and Certificates of Deposit has been elevated to ‘CARE AA+/Stable’. This upgrade signifies enhanced creditworthiness and positive financial assessment by the rating agency.

Details of Rating Action

The upgrade affects IOB’s instruments including Basel III Tier II Bonds (ISINs INE565A08043, INE565A08050, INE565A08068) and Certificates of Deposit. Previously rated ‘AA’, these instruments are now rated ‘AA+’, with the outlook maintained as ‘Stable’. For its Certificate of Deposits, the rating of ‘CARE A1+’ has been reaffirmed.

Rationale for Upgrade

CARE Ratings cited improvements in IOB’s financial risk profile, sustained asset quality with moderate slippages, and enhanced profitability as key drivers for the upgrade. The rating also factors in the majority ownership by the Government of India and its expected continued support. The bank’s diversified advances book, strong depositor base, and comfortable capitalisation levels further contribute to the positive assessment.

While the bank’s regional concentration is noted as a constraint, overall asset quality has improved. The stable outlook is based on the expectation of above-industry growth in advances, maintained capitalisation, and healthy profitability.
