Hindustan Zinc: Signs 6-Year Deal for 30 Electric Trucks

Hindustan Zinc Limited has signed a six-year transportation agreement with MFL India Limited for the deployment of 30 electric trucks. This initiative aims to transport zinc and lead concentrate from the Rampura Agucha mine to its Rajasthan smelters, accelerating the company’s mine-to-smelter decarbonisation efforts. MFL India will also establish dedicated EV charging infrastructure to support the logistics network.

Hindustan Zinc Embraces Electric Mobility for Concentrate Transport

Hindustan Zinc Limited, a leading global zinc producer, has announced a significant step forward in its decarbonisation strategy by signing a six-year transportation agreement with MFL India Limited. This collaboration will see the deployment of 30 electric trucks for the movement of concentrate from the Rampura Agucha mine to the company’s smelting operations in Rajasthan. This initiative is a key component of Hindustan Zinc’s ongoing commitment to reducing its carbon footprint across its entire value chain.

Accelerating Decarbonisation and Electrification

The agreement is extendable by an additional two years and marks a progressive transition from conventional diesel vehicles to electric trucks. MFL India Limited, a logistics solutions provider, will not only supply the electric fleet but also establish and operate dedicated EV charging infrastructure. This integrated approach is designed to ensure reliable, efficient, and sustainable logistics operations, creating a robust ecosystem for electric mobility within critical industrial routes.

CEO’s Vision for Sustainable Mining

Mr. Amarendu Prakash, CEO & Whole-time Director of Hindustan Zinc Limited, emphasized the strategic importance of this move, stating, “The future of mining will be defined not only by the metals we produce, but by how responsibly and efficiently we produce and move them. The contract for deployment of EV trucks for concentrate transportation is yet another step towards that future, demonstrating how industrial decarbonisation can strengthen competitiveness while creating an ecosystem in which our partners and communities grow with us.”

Phased Transition and Partner Collaboration

Recognizing the capital requirements for adopting new technologies like EVs, Hindustan Zinc is collaborating with MFL India on a phased transition. This approach ensures the progressive replacement of conventional vehicles as the EV fleet and charging infrastructure mature, while also facilitating the continued involvement of local drivers in the transportation network.

MFL India’s Commitment to Cleaner Logistics

Mr. Anil Thukral, Chairman & Managing Director of MFL India Limited, expressed pride in the partnership: “We are proud to partner with Hindustan Zinc in advancing the transition to cleaner industrial logistics. This deployment demonstrates how electric mobility can be effectively integrated into large-scale transportation networks, supported by the right charging infrastructure and operational planning. Together, we are building a scalable model for sustainable logistics that delivers both environmental benefits and long-term operational value.”

Broader Decarbonisation Roadmap

This deployment aligns with Hindustan Zinc’s broader decarbonisation roadmap, which aims to achieve Net Zero emissions by 2050 or sooner. The company has been actively increasing the share of renewable energy in its power mix, currently at nearly 22%, and is scaling up investments in renewable power, electrification, and energy efficiency technologies across its operations and value chain.

The company has also steadily expanded its green logistics fleet. During FY2026, 42 electric vehicles were added, bringing the total green logistics fleet to 232 vehicles, including 52 EVs and 180 LNG vehicles. Hindustan Zinc has pioneered the use of battery electric vehicles in underground mining and has been instrumental in driving cleaner mobility solutions across its operations.
