Hindustan Aeronautics Limited Shri Kota Ravi Appointed as Chairman & Managing Director

Hindustan Aeronautics Limited (HAL) has announced the appointment of Shri Kota Ravi as the new Chairman & Managing Director of the company. Effective from May 1, 2026, Shri Ravi transitions to this leadership role from his previous position as Director (Operations). He brings over 30 years of experience in aerospace and defence, having played a pivotal role in securing HAL’s Maharatna status and overseeing major strategic contracts.

Leadership Transition

Following approval from the Ministry of Defence, the Board of Directors of Hindustan Aeronautics Limited (HAL) has appointed Shri Kota Ravi to head the organization. Shri Ravi assumed the responsibilities of Chairman & Managing Director on May 1, 2026. He will serve in this capacity until his superannuation on June 30, 2029, or until further government directives are issued.

A Proven Track Record

Shri Kota Ravi is a Mechanical Engineering graduate and an alumnus of IIM Ahmedabad and IAS, Toulouse. Throughout his tenure at HAL, he has been instrumental in driving innovation and operational excellence. Notably, he led critical strategic planning initiatives that contributed to the company achieving its Maharatna status.

Strategic Contributions and Projects

During his leadership within the LCA Tejas division, Shri Ravi spearheaded several high-value initiatives, including:

  • The contract to supply 180 LCA Tejas aircraft to the Indian Air Force.
  • The supply of 156 LCH Prachand helicopters for both the Indian Air Force and Indian Army.
  • Operationalizing the LCA Tejas fleet and improving overall serviceability through a dedicated Single Point of Contact (SPOC) for the Indian Air Force.

Future Outlook

In his new role, Shri Ravi is set to focus on expanding HAL’s capabilities in Artificial Intelligence (AI), indigenous manufacturing, and the diversification of revenue streams into Civil manufacturing and MRO services. His strategy remains centered on strengthening India’s self-reliance in the aerospace sector and driving global competitiveness.
