HFCL Limited Expanding Defence Footprint with New Manufacturing Facility

HFCL Limited has announced the establishment of a new defence manufacturing facility in the Sri Satya Sai District of Andhra Pradesh. With an estimated initial capital outlay of ₹230 crore, the unit will focus on producing Multi-Mode Hand Grenades (MMHG) and related advanced defence products. This strategic expansion aims to bolster India’s ‘Aatmanirbharta’ (self-reliance) goals and significantly strengthen HFCL’s product portfolio in the high-value defence manufacturing sector.

Strategic Expansion into Defence

HFCL Limited is set to significantly enhance its defence manufacturing capabilities following a recent board approval to establish a specialized facility in Andhra Pradesh. The project, which involves a total initial investment of ₹230 crore, marks a pivotal shift in the company’s long-term strategy, aligning with the national objective of achieving self-reliance in domestic defence production.

Capacity and Project Timeline

The new plant is designed to manufacture Multi-Mode Hand Grenades (MMHG) and other advanced defence systems. The company plans to add a production capacity of approximately 40 lakh units to meet growing domestic and global demand. The project is currently in its planning phase and is expected to reach completion by December 2027.

Financial and Growth Outlook

To fund this significant capital expenditure, HFCL is considering a mix of internal accruals, debt financing, and proceeds from a potential preferential issue of convertible warrants. This facility is expected to serve as a strong platform for future growth, allowing the company to capture emerging opportunities driven by long-term defence procurement programs and the ongoing global realignment of defence supply chains.
