Hindustan Construction Company Limited (HCC) announced on August 11, 2026, that it has secured a substantial contract valued at ₹524.17 crore from NHPC Limited. This contract pertains to essential works at the Salal Power Station located in Jammu & Kashmir.
Scope of Work and Objectives
The project encompasses vital civil and hydro-mechanical works, along with associated ancillary and enabling activities. The primary objective is to bring the undersluices of the concrete dam at the Salal Power Station to full functionality and operational readiness. The contract is set to be completed within a duration of 27 months.
Enhancing Hydroelectric Operations
The Salal Power Station is a key hydroelectric asset for NHPC. The planned rehabilitation of its undersluices is expected to significantly improve the dam’s operational efficiency, bolster sediment management capabilities, and further enhance its long-term safety and reliability.
HCC’s Strong Track Record in J&K
This new contract builds upon HCC’s four-decade legacy of executing landmark engineering projects within Jammu & Kashmir. The company has a robust history in the region, including the construction of the 690 MW Salal Hydroelectric Project itself, commissioned in 1987. Additionally, HCC has previously constructed four other power projects in J&K: Uri-II (240 MW), Kishanganga (333 MW), Nimoo Bazgo (45 MW), and Chutak (44 MW), contributing approximately 38% of the state’s total installed hydropower capacity, totaling 1,352 MW.
Diverse Infrastructure Expertise
Beyond its expertise in hydroelectric infrastructure, HCC’s portfolio includes India’s first cable-stayed railway bridge at Anji Khad and extensive tunnel construction. The company has executed nearly 32 km of tunnels for the strategically crucial Udhampur-Srinagar-Baramulla Rail Link project, which represents about 27% of the total tunnel length for this vital connectivity corridor, serving both civilian and defence needs.
