Ather Energy has announced a major milestone for its family-focused electric scooter, the Rizta, which has surpassed 3 lakh unit sales within two years of its launch. Introduced in April 2024, the Rizta has become the company’s largest volume driver, accounting for 76% of total sales in FY26. The scooter’s success has been instrumental in expanding Ather’s market share across India, particularly in states like Maharashtra, Gujarat, and Madhya Pradesh.
Accelerated Sales Momentum
Since its market debut, the Ather Rizta has demonstrated rapid adoption among Indian families. After reaching the 1 lakh unit sales mark in just 11 months, the company saw an even faster transition to the 3 lakh unit milestone, adding the latest 1 lakh units in only five months. This performance highlights the growing demand for practical electric two-wheelers designed for daily commuting.
Strategic Market Expansion
The Rizta has played a pivotal role in shifting Ather’s footprint beyond its traditional stronghold in Southern India. In key states including Maharashtra, Gujarat, Madhya Pradesh, Chhattisgarh, and Odisha, the brand’s market share grew 4X, rising from 4.1% in Q1 FY25 to 17.3% in Q4 FY26. Northern regions, such as Punjab, Rajasthan, and Uttar Pradesh, also experienced a 3X growth in market share during the same timeframe.
Design and User Experience
Targeting the family segment, nearly 70% of Rizta customers are households with children. The scooter is engineered for practicality, featuring 56 litres of total storage capacity—comprising 34 litres of under-seat storage and a 22-litre frunk—along with a spacious floorboard. Ather continues to support the platform with regular software enhancements, such as the Atherstack 7 update, which introduced a touchscreen interface to existing users, further boosting consumer satisfaction.
