Astra Microwave: Lands INR 2,205 Crore Order for Uttam Radar Subsystems

Astra Microwave Products Limited has secured a significant order worth INR 2,205 crore from Hindustan Aeronautics Limited (HAL) for critical subsystems for the Uttam Radar. This landmark achievement effectively doubles the company’s order book to a record INR 4,300 crore. The company also emerged as the lowest bidder for the AAAU of the AMCA program, further bolstering its future prospects.

Major Order Boosts Order Book

Astra Microwave Products Limited announced on August 17, 2026, that it has secured a substantial order valued at approximately INR 2,205 crore from Hindustan Aeronautics Limited (HAL). This order is for the procurement of critical subsystems required for the Uttam Radar. Management highlighted this as a landmark achievement, reflecting long-standing trust in Astra’s capabilities within the defense sector and significantly enhancing its order book.

Record Order Book and Future Growth

With the addition of this significant order, Astra Microwave’s consolidated order book has reached a record-breaking INR 4,300 crore as of date. This strong order book provides considerable visibility for future execution. The company also announced its emergence as the lowest bidder for the AAAU component of the AMCA program, with the contract expected within a month. This positions Astra Microwave for further growth in advanced defense platforms.

Performance and Outlook

In its Q1 FY27 earnings call, the company reported moderate performance in the quarter, attributed to temporary delays in customer approvals. However, the outlook remains robust, with a target of over 15% year-on-year growth, projecting revenues of approximately INR 1,350 crore for the financial year. Astra Microwave is focused on leveraging its engineering capabilities and strengthening execution to deliver sustainable multiyear growth.

Diversification and Innovation

Beyond major defense contracts, Astra Microwave is also advancing in innovation, conducting successful technology demonstrations for novel products like an electromagnetic wall and a vehicle-mounted anti-drone system. The company is investing in automated process engineering and advanced infrastructure to support its growing order book and scale of operations. Efforts are also underway to demerge the Space and Weather divisions into a separate listed entity, aiming to unlock further shareholder value.

Segment Contributions and Strategy

The current stand-alone order book is approximately INR 2,156 crore, with 66% from defense and 34% from space, metrology, and hydrology sectors. The consolidated order book stands at INR 2,849 crore, including service orders. The company is strengthening its position across defense, space, and semiconductor segments and is exploring opportunities in global export markets.
