AGI Greenpac has officially commenced construction on a ₹1,000 crore aluminium beverage can manufacturing facility in Hathras, Uttar Pradesh. Spanning 34 acres, the plant is scheduled to begin operations in the first half of 2027. With an initial production capacity of 1.6 billion cans per year—scalable to over 2 billion—the project aims to serve rising market demand while adhering to stringent sustainability standards with a goal for Platinum Green Building certification.
Strategic Expansion into Aluminium Packaging
AGI Greenpac is marking a significant milestone in its growth strategy by establishing a state-of-the-art aluminium can manufacturing hub. This ₹1,000 crore investment reflects the company’s commitment to capturing opportunities within the rapidly growing Indian packaging sector. By diversifying into aluminium cans, the company complements its existing portfolio of container glass and speciality packaging to become a one-stop integrated partner for beverage manufacturers.
Operational Capacity and Future Scalability
The facility is designed for high-speed, precision manufacturing and will feature two production lines at launch. The plant will produce a diverse range of standard, sleek, and slim aluminium cans, catering to various segments including carbonated soft drinks, beer, energy drinks, and ready-to-drink beverages. While the initial output is targeted at 1.3 billion cans annually against a rated capacity of 1.6 billion, the infrastructure is built to scale up to 2 billion cans annually through future technological upgrades.
Sustainability and Market Logistics
Sustainability is at the core of the new plant’s design, which aims to secure the Platinum Green Building rating. The company is emphasizing resource efficiency and circular economy goals, noting that aluminium is infinitely recyclable. Furthermore, the Hathras location provides a strategic advantage for logistics, offering proximity to key consumption markets across North and Central India. This ensures faster turnaround times and optimized service for customers operating within just-in-time supply chains.
Market Outlook
The domestic aluminium can market in India is currently estimated at 3.9 billion cans annually and is projected to see double-digit growth. Driven by premiumisation and changing consumer preferences toward sustainable packaging, AGI Greenpac intends to leverage its deep operational expertise and existing client relationships with over 500 institutional brands to secure a significant market share.
