The expansion supports APSEZ’s ‘Ambition 2031’ roadmap and reinforces Mundra Port’s role in India’s international trade.
APSEZ Enhances Mundra Port Operations with New Facility
Adani Ports and Special Economic Zone Ltd. (APSEZ), India’s largest integrated transport operator, announced today the launch of a dedicated Empty Container Yard (ECY) at Mundra Port. This new facility, integrated with warehousing, is designed to offer comprehensive end-to-end services for the entire empty container lifecycle, including storage, maintenance, inspection, and seamless movement to exporters and Container Freight Stations (CFSs).
Boosting Efficiency and Capacity
The introduction of the ECY is expected to significantly streamline container handling operations and improve services for shipping lines and their customers. APSEZ, which handles approximately 35% of India’s container trade through Mundra Port alone, aims to leverage this initiative to achieve faster turnaround times, reduce unnecessary container movements, and optimize overall logistics costs.
This development is a key part of APSEZ’s ‘Ambition 2031’ roadmap, which includes substantial investments to expand its network capacity. The company plans to add over 6 million TEUs of container handling capacity in the next five years. The dedicated ECY at Mundra will further strengthen the port’s position as a critical gateway for India’s international trade.
Strategic Alignment and Future Outlook
Mr. Ashwani Gupta, Whole-time Director and Chief Executive Officer, APSEZ, stated that the ECY operations by APSEZ and its partners will enhance efficiency across the container ecosystem. He emphasized that strengthening trade-enabling infrastructure is central to APSEZ’s commitment to supporting India’s growth and the vision of Viksit Bharat. The initiative also aligns with the government’s focus on developing efficient, technology-enabled logistics systems and improving the ease of doing business. The new facility is anticipated to foster closer coordination among Customs authorities, shipping lines, terminal operators, and transporters.
