July 30, 2026 – Tata Power Renewable Energy Limited (TPREL), a subsidiary of The Tata Power Company Limited, has officially commenced its significant 800 MW renewable energy project in Andhra Pradesh. The groundbreaking ceremony for this ambitious undertaking marks a pivotal moment in the company’s commitment to accelerating India’s clean energy transition.
Project Details and Investment
The project is a hybrid initiative, comprising 400 MW of solar power capacity and 400 MW of wind power capacity. This large-scale development represents an investment of ₹5,750 crore. The solar component will be based in Pattikonda, Kurnool, while the wind power capacity will be developed at Kanekallu, Ananthapuram.
Strategic Significance and Infrastructure
The project has secured 800 MW Inter-State Transmission System (ISTS) connectivity, which will ensure efficient evacuation of renewable power through the national transmission network. This infrastructure is crucial for the project’s successful operation and contributes to a robust transmission network for clean energy evacuation. The initiative aligns with the Andhra Pradesh Integrated Clean Energy (ICE) Policy, aiming to boost clean energy investments and sustainable industrial growth.
Economic and Employment Impact
Beyond its contribution to renewable energy capacity, the project is expected to create approximately 4000 direct and indirect employment opportunities during its development, construction, and operational phases. It will also provide annual lease rental income, offering sustained socio-economic benefits to the region. The project will span a total land area of 3,462 acres.
