With an initial capital outlay of ₹230 crore, the plant will focus on the production of Multi-Mode Hand Grenades (MMHG) and related defence products. This strategic expansion is designed to enhance the company’s capabilities and support the national Aatmanirbharta initiative in defence production, with completion expected by December 2027.

Strategic Expansion into Defence

HFCL Limited is set to significantly bolster its presence in the high-value defence sector. The Board of Directors has approved the construction of a state-of-the-art facility dedicated to the manufacturing of Multi-Mode Hand Grenades (MMHG) and other advanced defence systems. Located in the Sri Satya Sai District of Andhra Pradesh, this initiative aligns with India’s national goal of achieving self-reliance in defence manufacturing.

Project Details and Capacity

The company has earmarked an initial capital investment of approximately ₹230 crore for this project. Once operational, the facility is projected to add a manufacturing capacity of 40 lakh units annually. The expansion is part of a broader strategy to leverage the growing domestic and international demand for advanced defence technologies and to capitalize on long-term defence procurement programs.

Timeline and Financing

The timeline for this project is set, with the facility expected to be fully commissioned by December 2027. To fund this substantial investment, HFCL plans to utilize a mix of internal accruals, debt financing, and potential proceeds from the preferential issue of convertible warrants. By diversifying its production portfolio, the company aims to strengthen its engineering capabilities and secure its position as a key player in the evolving global defence supply chain.
