LTM, a Larsen & Toubro Group Company, has announced a new strategic initiative to provide its global workforce with access to Universal AI, a training program developed by MIT Open Learning. Delivered in partnership with upGrad Enterprise, the self-paced curriculum aims to institutionalize AI fluency across both technical and non-technical departments. Employees completing the 16-module course will receive credentials certifying their readiness in foundational AI reasoning and ethical deployment.
Advancing AI Fluency at Scale
On April 6, 2026, LTM announced a significant commitment to professional development by integrating high-level AI education into its employee training ecosystem. By collaborating with upGrad Enterprise, the company is facilitating access to MIT-tier expertise, ensuring its 87,000+ employees are equipped with the scientific thinking and first-principles reasoning necessary to navigate an AI-driven global economy.
Curriculum and Strategic Impact
The Universal AI program is designed to be accessible to all skill levels, with no coding prerequisites. The curriculum spans 16 foundational modules alongside specific vertical-focused content, covering the mechanics of AI systems, the technologies powering them, and critical ethical considerations for real-world deployment.
According to Gururaj Deshpande, Chief Delivery Officer at LTM, the initiative is a strategic necessity for the company: “With AI advancing rapidly, the importance of human intervention in AI solutions is crucial for effective functioning and optimised outcomes. Strategic workforce upskilling is essential to building impactful AI-led solutions.”
Driving Innovation Through Partnerships
The partnership leverages the outcome-driven development capabilities of upGrad Enterprise to bridge capability gaps across LTM’s global operations. Ronnie Screwvala, Chairperson & Co-Founder of upGrad, emphasized that the initiative builds a future-ready workforce capable of developing AI-led solutions with both social and economic impact in mind. Upon successful completion of the modules, participants will be formally recognized by MIT Open Learning for their level of AI readiness and domain understanding.
