KPI Green Energy Limited Successfully Energises 965 MWp Capacity in its IPP Portfolio

KPI Green Energy Limited has successfully commissioned 965 MWp of renewable energy capacity out of its ambitious 2.17 GWp Independent Power Producer (IPP) portfolio. This milestone highlights the company’s successful transition towards a robust, asset-backed IPP model, leveraging long-term Power Purchase Agreements (PPAs), many extending for 25 years. Key developments include significant solar and hybrid renewable capacity additions under various agreements with GUVNL.

IPP Portfolio Milestone Achieved

KPI Green Energy Limited announced the successful commissioning of 965 MWp of power generation capacity, which is part of the larger 2.17 GWp Independent Power Producer (IPP) portfolio. This accomplishment reinforces the company’s strategic move toward securing sustainable, annuity revenue streams derived from long-term contracted projects, with many PPAs spanning 25 years. This asset-backed IPP model is further complemented by the firm’s existing expertise in Engineering, Procurement, and Construction (EPC).

Key Capacity Additions

The total energized capacity now stands at 965 MWp, reflecting significant progress in phased development. The remaining balance capacity under the 2.17 GWp IPP portfolio is scheduled for execution in line with timelines, positioning KPI Green as a leading IPP developer.

Khavda Solar IPP Project (200 MW/240 MWp)

The company successfully commissioned and started injecting power from 200 MW (240 MWp) solar capacity at the Khavda Solar Park (South Block) in January 2026. This is connected with earlier projects under the 1.8 GW solar park development with Gujarat Urja Vikas Nigam Limited (GUVNL).

Hybrid Renewable Energy IPP (50 MW/92 MWp)

KPI Green achieved commissioning and power injection ahead of its July 2026 commercial operation date (COD) for its 52.15 MWp hybrid project. This comprised 16.95 MWp wind capacity and 75.3 MWp solar capacity. Early synchronization demonstrated the firm’s expertise in complex hybrid renewable projects.

Solar and Hybrid Energy IPP (620 MW/1027 MWp)

In October 2024, KPI executed two long-term PPAs with GUVNL for renewable capacity, detailing the following components:

  • 250 MW/350 MWp grid-connected solar IPP project.
  • 370 MW/677 MWp grid-connected hybrid IPP project.

For the hybrid project, the company has successfully commissioned 110 MW AC / 164 MWp solar capacity and 29.70 MW wind capacity, aggregating to a total energized capacity of 140 MW AC / 194 MWp under this hybrid order. The balance capacity for this project is currently undergoing execution and is targeted for full completion by October 2026.

150 MW Wind IPP Project

KPI signed an agreement for 150 MW with GUVNL in November 2025. Execution activities are currently underway, with commissioning anticipated by October 2027, aligning with the approved schedule.

445 MW/890 MWh Battery Energy Storage System (BESS)

A subsidiary, Sun Drops Energia Limited, executed a Battery Energy Storage Purchase Agreement (BESPA) with GUVNL for 445 MW / 890 MWh of standalone battery energy storage systems. This marks KPI Green’s entry into utility-scale energy storage solutions, designed to enhance grid stability and energy management capabilities.
