Tata Power: Signs MoU with BPCL for 110 kV Power Infrastructure

Tata Power has signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) with Bharat Petroleum Corporation Limited (BPCL) to develop 110 kV power infrastructure for BPCL’s Petro Resid Fluidized Catalytic Cracking Unit (PRFCCU) project at its Mumbai Refinery. The project requires 90 MW power and has an estimated outlay of approximately ₹250 crore for Tata Power and BPCL, with completion expected in about 24 months.

Tata Power and BPCL Partner for New Power Infrastructure

Tata Power, a leading integrated power company, has entered into a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) with Bharat Petroleum Corporation Limited (BPCL). This agreement focuses on the development of crucial 110 kV power infrastructure to meet the 90 MW power demand for BPCL’s upcoming Petro Resid Fluidized Catalytic Cracking Unit (PRFCCU) project. The PRFCCU project is a pioneering initiative in India’s refining sector, aimed at enhancing value-added product recovery and diversifying petrochemical operations.

Project Details and Investment

The PRFCCU project, with a processing capacity of 3 million metric tonnes per annum, represents a significant investment of approximately ₹14,203 crore for BPCL. Under the MoU, Tata Power will be responsible for providing the 110 kV connectivity and overseeing the design and development of the necessary power infrastructure. This development is expected to strengthen power connectivity and transmission infrastructure, with an estimated combined outlay of around ₹250 crore for both Tata Power and BPCL. The project’s completion is targeted within approximately 24 months, subject to necessary approvals and milestones.

Strategic Impact and Future Growth

This collaboration is poised to enhance India’s energy security and contribute to the national vision of ‘Aatmanirbhar Bharat’ by bolstering domestic value addition. Furthermore, the infrastructure development undertaken by Tata Power is expected to reinforce its transmission network in the Trombay area. This augmentation will support the anticipated growth in electricity demand from large industrial consumers and other concentrated load developments within this strategically vital industrial zone. Tata Power also plans to strengthen its overall transmission infrastructure in Mumbai with a planned 400 kV transmission facility over the next five years.
