ICRA Limited has reaffirmed the credit rating of [ICRA]AAA (Stable) for Reliance Industries Limited’s (RIL) non-convertible debenture programme and bank loan facilities. The agency also reaffirmed the [ICRA]A1+ rating for RIL’s commercial paper. This rating reflects RIL’s strong financial performance, diversified earnings, leadership positions across key sectors, and robust liquidity.
Reliance Industries Maintains Top Credit Rating
On October 21, 2026, ICRA Limited announced the reaffirmation of its highest credit rating for Reliance Industries Limited (RIL). The non-convertible debenture programme and bank loan facilities have been assigned a rating of [ICRA]AAA (Stable). Additionally, RIL’s commercial paper has been reaffirmed at [ICRA]A1+.
Key Strengths Underpinning the Rating
The reaffirmation of these ratings is driven by several key factors, including RIL’s increasingly diversified earnings mix, with consumer-facing businesses now accounting for over half of its consolidated EBITDA. The digital services segment contributed 15% to consolidated gross revenue and 41% to EBITDA in Q1 FY2027, while retail contributed ~29% of revenue and ~12% of EBITDA. This diversification from the cyclical hydrocarbon chain enhances stability.
RIL also maintains strong leadership positions across its Oil-to-Chemicals (O2C), digital services, and retail businesses. Its O2C business benefits from integrated operations and scale, operating the world’s single largest crude oil refinery. In digital services, Reliance Jio is India’s largest telecom operator, and Reliance Retail is the country’s largest retailer. The company’s financial flexibility is described as exceptionally high, supported by substantial liquid investments and a strong track record in raising long-term funds.
The ratings also consider RIL’s healthy coverage indicators and stable capital structure. Despite an increase in consolidated debt, the gross debt/OPBDITA remained stable at 2.2x in FY2026. The interest coverage ratio was healthy at 6.6x in FY2026.
Credit Challenges and Outlook
ICRA acknowledges potential challenges such as the cyclicality in RIL’s O2C and E&P segments, significant competitive intensity in the retail sector, and the substantial investments required for new energy and AI-led digital infrastructure projects. However, the company’s strong execution capabilities are noted to mitigate these risks. The outlook for RIL remains Stable, with ICRA expecting its leadership positions and strong cash flow generation to maintain a healthy credit profile.
