JSW Energy: Acquires 300 MW Power Plant, Capacity Hits 14.8 GW

JSW Energy Limited has successfully completed the acquisition of 100% equity shares of Maruti Clean Coal and Power Limited (MCCPL), which operates a 300 MW thermal power plant in Chhattisgarh. This acquisition brings JSW Energy’s total operational installed capacity to 14.8 GW and is expected to be EBITDA and PAT-accretive from day one.

JSW Energy Completes 300 MW Power Plant Acquisition

JSW Energy Limited has announced the successful completion of its acquisition of 100% of the equity share capital of Maruti Clean Coal & Power Limited (MCCPL). This strategic move significantly enhances JSW Energy’s operational capacity, bringing its total installed capacity to 14.8 GW.

MCCPL Asset Details

MCCPL owns and operates a 300 MW thermal power plant located in Korba, Chhattisgarh. The plant has a long-term Power Purchase Agreement (PPA) for 195 MW with Rajasthan discoms and sells the remaining capacity in the merchant market. The acquisition, valued at an Enterprise Value of ₹1,410 crore, is expected to be EBITDA and PAT-accretive from the outset.

Mr. Sharad Mahendra, Joint Managing Director and CEO of JSW Energy, stated that the acquisition reinforces the company’s commitment to disciplined growth and value-accretive opportunities. The asset complements the existing generation portfolio, enhances the ability to deliver dependable power, and unlocks operational synergies with its proximity to the Mahanadi facility. This move strengthens JSW Energy’s regional thermal footprint.

Future Outlook and Capacity

With this acquisition, JSW Energy’s current total locked-in generation capacity stands at 32.4 GW, comprising 14.8 GW operational and 13.6 GW under construction across thermal, hydro, and renewables. The company has a pipeline of 4 GW and aims to reach 30 GW of generation capacity by 2030. Additionally, JSW Energy is building its energy storage capacity, targeting 40 GWh by 2030.
